SPAIN

“I would sooner be a foreigner in Spain than in most countries. How easy it is to make friends in Spain!” – George Orwell

As you may have guessed by now, Spain is one of my favourite places. I’m admittedly biased, as the love of my life is from Barcelona, but ever since my first visit, my affection for this country has only deepened. Barcelona will always feel like another home to me after spending so much time there, but Catalunya as a whole has completely captured my heart. From the coastline to the Catalan mountains and Pyrenees, this region offers extraordinary variety. It’s home to hundreds of medieval towns full of character. From Girona to Cadaqués to Figueres, there is always something new to discover.

Beyond Catalunya, I’ve spent time exploring many other parts of Spain, each with its own distinct identity. Aragón surprised me with its vast landscapes and the historic city of Zaragoza, while Madrid offers culture, energy and some of the best tapas dining in the country.

Valencia blends city life with beaches and bold cuisine, and the sun-soaked island of Mallorca feels effortlessly beautiful. With its clear waters, relaxed pace and excellent food, it’s easy to see why so many people return time and time again.

Northern Spain has also left a strong impression on me. The Basque Country feels entirely unique, from its language and traditions to its dramatic coastline and food culture. Galicia, too, stands apart, with its wild Atlantic scenery, beautiful estuaries, outstanding seafood and deep sense of history. Together, these regions show just how diverse Spain truly is, and why it has something for everyone.
