Belfast’s Obsession with Milkshakes

If you’re ever walking around Belfast, you’re going to notice a heck of a lot of milkshake advertisements. In addition, you’ll find that so many restaurants and cafes serve milkshakes. Belfast is caught up in milkshake mayhem and I love it!

If you’re more of an ice cream guy or gal, and don’t really like milkshakes, then you obviously haven’t thought about the benefits of milkshakes! Particularly in the UK, milkshakes to go are more weather friendly than ice cream. You can get milkshakes in to go cups and walk through the pouring rain with your delicious mouth-watering treat in your hand. So, while in Belfast, why don’t you give some of these hot spots a try?

Maggie May’s

2 Malone Rd Belfast BT9 5BN

50 Botanic Ave Belfast BT7 1JR

44 Castle Street Belfast BT1 1HB

With three locations, Maggie Mays attracts families, businesspeople, and students alike. They focus on high quality comfort food at a reasonable price. Breakfast was my favorite thing about this place, but they also dedicate so much of their time to dessert. Maggie Mays has an extensive milkshake menu, which arrive in giant glasses. They offer simple milkshakes, like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, and also special milkshakes like snickers, mars and peanut butter. But, if you want a super treat, then why not go for their super special milkshakes? My absolute favourite was the Banoffee Blitz, made of Banoffee bits topped with whipped cream and toffee sauce.

I’ve been here many times, and I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Jenz

207 Lisburn Rd Belfast BT9 7EJ

(Editor’s note: this establishment has now closed)

From the outside Jenz looks like a pretty normal coffee shop, but there are two things that will make you wonder if it is. One, the giant Hippy Shakes sign on the curb, and then two, all the superhero decor when you walk inside. Also known as the Hero Cafe, this place is covered in superhero memorabilia. In addition, they have a crazy amount of milkshakes available! Think of any UK candy, and they have a milkshake version of it. Jenz claims to be the first milkshake bar in Northern Ireland with over 200 flavors to try! And for the record, they also have pretty good coffee.

And beyond these two cafes, there are a ton more places offering milkshakes in Belfast.
