Lluritu 3: A Love Letter to the Sea

Location: Barcelona, Spain

Cuisine: Spanish Seafood

Lluritu 3 has quietly become one of our most treasured dining spots in Barcelona, a place where seafood is treated with respect, creativity, and a dash of nostalgia. It’s the third location of the Lluritu group, hence the name, and continues the tradition of unfussy, high-quality seafood that’s won them a loyal following. Across three visits, we’ve tasted a wide range of the restaurant’s vibrant offerings, and it’s safe to say that Lluritu 3 is more than just a good meal; it’s an experience of generosity and honest flavours.

Our first visit was back in January, a family dinner with my mom, where we went all in on sharing plates. We started with some cold dishes, like the esqueixada de bacallà, a refreshing opener. Esqueixada is a classic Catalan salad of shredded salt cod, tomatoes, onions, and olives. It was bright and briny. This was followed by the essential pa amb tomàquet, always the perfect canvas for what was to come, and the sardines marinades (marinated sardines). The sardines were my mom’s favourite!

We then moved on to warm plates. We had the variat de closca (a mix of shellfish), zamburiñas (small scallops), and sweet gambetes. Each dish was beautifully cooked, letting the seafood speak for itself.

By May, I returned with Victor for a lighter meal. We couldn’t resist the pa amb tomàquet and variat de closca again, now our go-to staples. The standout this time, though, was the amanida d’anguila fumada — smoky eel with just the right balance of richness and acidity — and a seasonal special of tuna with salsa huancaína, a bold Peruvian touch that was unexpected but delicious.

I ended the meal with a deceptively simple dessert: María cookie mousse. It’s not just any mousse. It’s a recipe created by the mother of co-founder Pau Roca, inspired by his childhood. Creamy, nostalgic, and deeply personal, it felt like a sweet little story on a spoon.

Our third visit was a special one: a birthday lunch for Victor’s parents. Among the many delicious plates we shared, two dishes stood out — the escamarlanets (small Norway lobsters) were incredibly fresh and expertly grilled, and the paella with turbot was a showstopper: rich, comforting, and kissed with the deep flavour of the sea.

Each visit to Lluritu 3 reinforces why it’s so special. The food is rooted in tradition but unafraid to surprise, and there’s a clear sense that everything is done with love — from Pau’s mother’s dessert to the generous servings of seafood, to the relaxed, unpretentious vibe of the restaurant itself. If you’re looking for a spot that blends Catalan spirit with serious seafood skills, Lluritu 3 delivers every time.
